Location of Fort Aguada: - In the northern part of Goa is located the picturesque fort Aguada. It is just 15 kms from the capital city Panaji and in fact across the mandovi river the light house of fort Aguada is visible and is a famous landmark, The Goa international airport is also 40 kms from fort Aguada and you can use multiple options to reach the fort, you can hire taxi/cab/scooter or can use the Public conveyance and reach easily to the fort Aguada.

Fort Aguada History and Features – The fort Aguada was built by the Portuguese in 1612 and the main purpose of construction was providing safety to the Portuguese assets from the Dutch and Maratha adversaries, the name Aguada comes from the Portuguese language which means “water”. There was a natural fresh water spring at this place and the Portuguese used it to supply water even to the passing ships. The fort can be divided in to two portions the lower Aguada and the upper Aguada. The high and broad walls of fort Aguada have been constructed with blocks of laterite rocks found locally. The upper Aguada fort has a large reservoir of water (2376000) gallons, A light house which is four storied and was visible from a long distance to the faring ships. The light house was finally closed in 1976 but the scene from the light house is amazing as Arabian sea encloses from the three sides. There was a room to store Gun powder. The tourists come here to click the best Instagram worthy pictures against the backdrop of Mandovi river and the vast Arabian sea.
The fort was once using a battery of 200 canons for protection later the fort was converted in to a prison. The upper fort also has a secret tunnel which was used in adverse conditions now the tunnel is closed. In the vicinity is a five star resort property of the famous Taj group. Taj fort Aguada is a wonderful resort property to stay and enjoy Goa.

Best time to visit Fort Aguada - October-March is the best time to visit Goa but remember even in October the sun is scorching in Goa So plan your trip accordingly, best time of the day is after the noon around 4:00 pm start your rendezvous with Aguada fort and sure you will love the experience.
