About Chail

Chail, nestled in the Solan district of Himachal Pradesh, India, is a serene hill station renowned for its natural beauty, historical significance, and tranquil ambiance. History

The town’s history is intertwined with Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala, who, after being barred from Shimla in 1891, constructed the Chail Palace as his summer retreat. The palace, built in 1891, is an architectural marvel, blending colonial and traditional styles, and is surrounded by lush greenery. Notably, it is situated near the world’s highest cricket ground, established in 1893 at an altitude of 2,444 meters .​

Chail Wildlife Sanctuary: Covering over 10,000 hectares, this sanctuary is home to diverse wildlife, including sambar, goral, cheer pheasants, and leopards. It offers opportunities for nature walks and birdwatching .​

How to Reach?

By Road

Chail is well-connected by road to major cities like Shimla, Solan, and Chandigarh. The drive from Shimla to Chail via Kufri is approximately 45 km, while the route via Kandaghat is about 49 km.​

By Rail 

The nearest railway station is Kandaghat, which is connected to the Kalka-Shimla narrow-gauge line. From Kandaghat, Chail is approximately 10 km away by road.​

By Air 

The nearest airport is in Shimla, located about 37 km from Chail. Alternatively, Chandigarh Airport is approximately 120 km away.
