It will have five distinct zones and forty-four layers of engineering fill. The temple is said to contain 360 columns, with 16 incarnations of the deity Shiva. होली का इतिहास

होली त्यौहार का इतिहास का वर्णन विष्णु पुराण के समय से ज्ञात होता है जब भगवान् विष्णु ने हिरण्यकश्यप का वध करने के लिए नरसिम्हा अवतार धारण किया था,दैत्य हिरण्यकश्यप की बहन का नाम होलिका था जिसे यह वरदान प्राप्त था की वह जलती आग में एक विशेष वस्त्र पहनकर जो की उसे साधना से प्राप्त हुआ था पहनकर बैठ जाये तो उस पर उस अग्नि का कोई प्रभाव नहीं पड़ेगा ,इसी अनुसार अपने भ्राता हिरण्यकश्यप के कहने पर जब होलिका हिरण्यकश्यप के पुत्र प्रहलाद को लेकर अग्नि में प्रवेश कर गयी थीजो की भगवान् विष्णु का परम भक्त थे , परिणाम स्वरुप भगवान् विष्णु की कृपा से भक्त प्रहलाद का बाल भी बांका नहीं हुआ और हिरण्यकश्यप की बहन होलिका जल कर रख हो गयी , तभी से इस पर्व को बुराई पर अच्छाई के रूप में मनाया जाता है और हर वर्ष लोग एकत्र होकर होलिका देहें करते है।

इस पर्व का इतिहास भगवन श्री कृष्ण के जन्म से भी जुड़ा हुआ है जब भगवान् श्री कृष्ण  ने मथुरा में जन्म लिया था जो की उत्तर भारत में स्थित है और ऐसा माना जाता है की संपूर्ण ब्रज मंडल में भगवान् कृष्णा अपनी प्रिय राधा जी एवं उनकी सहेलियों के साथ ब्रज में होली का पर्व मानते थे , और आज भी संपूर्ण ब्रज मंडल में इस पर्व को अत्यंत उत्साह के साथ मनाया जाता है

होली 2022 पूजा विधि,शुभ मुहूर्त

हिन्दू पंचांग के अनुसार होलि का त्यौहार फाल्गुन मॉस की पूर्णिमा तिथि के दिन माने जाता है। वर्ष 2022 में होली का त्यौहार दिनाक 17 मार्च को होलिका दहन और 18 मार्च को देश भर में धुलेंडी का त्यौहार मनाया जायेगा। हर वर्ष की भाँती इस वर्ष भी होलिका दहन का महूर्त एक विशेष समय पर होगा। 2022 में होलिका दहन का शुभ मुहूर्त रात्रि 9 बजकर 20 मिनट से लेकर 10 बजकर 31 मिनट रहेगा, इसकी संपूर्ण विधि का शुभ मुहूर्त लगभग 1 घंटा 11 मिनट रहेगा। ठीक उसी प्रकार दिनांक18 मार्च 2022 को प्रातः बेला से लेकर अपराह्न 3 बजे तक होली खेलने का शुभ महूर्त रहेगा

होली त्यौहार कैसे मनाये ?

यु तो होली पर्व संपूर्ण भारत में मनाया जाता है पर उत्तर भारत में इसका ख़ास महत्व है अथवा देश विदेश से सैलानी इस त्यौहार को मानाने ब्रज की धरती पर उपस्थित होते है , इस त्यौहार को प्रथम दिन सभी घर परिवार और मोहल्ले और गाओं के लोग एकत्र होकर होलिका दहन करते है जिसकी तैयारी लगभग एक सप्ताह पूर्व से ही शुरू हो जाती है, और जगह जगह छोटे छोटे स्टार पर लोग होलिका दहन का कार्यक्रम रखते है , उसी प्रकार उतर भारत में भी लोग गाय के गोबर के बने हुए छोटे छोटे कंडे बनाकर घरों में भी होलिका दहन करते है , ऐसा मन जाता है की इस प्रथा से वातावरण में मौजूद सभी बुराइयों को नष्ट कर दिया जाता है,

होली के दूसरे दिन जिस दिन होली का पर्व रंग और गुलाल के साथ मनाया जाता है, सर्वप्रथम लोग सुबह उठकर अपने सभी बुजुर्गों और घर के बड़े लोगों के पर छूकर इस पर्व की शुरुआत करते है, उसके उपरांत सभी लोग आपस में गले मिलकर और गुलाल लगाकर इस त्यौहार को मानते है, इस त्यौहार को रंगों का त्यौहार भी कहा जाता है जहाँ विभिन्न तरह के रंगो से रंगे हुए लोग और बच्चे जमकर होली खेलते है और गुलाल उड़ाते है इस त्यौहार पर रंग बिरंगी छठा देखते ही बनती है और ऐसा लगता है मनो पूरा ब्रजमण्डल रंगों में नाहा गया हो , इस त्यौहार में लोग विभिन्न तरह के पकवान भी घरों में बनाते है जिसमे प्रमुख स्थान गुजिया, पकोड़े, चंदिया, नमकीन और सांख का होता है, जो भी लोग बहार से होली मानाने आते है उन्हें ये भोजन परोस कर एवं गुलाल लगा कर उनका स्वागत किया जाता है।

साल २०२२ में होली का पर्व बड़ी धूम धाम के साथ मनाया जायेगा।  इस बार होलिका दहन दिनांक 17 मार्च 2022 को बृहस्पति वार के दिन किया जायेगा और रंगो वाली होली (धुलेंडी) दिनांक 18 मार्च 2022 को मनाई जाएगी, भाई दौज का त्यौहार दिनांक 19 मार्च को मनाया जायेगा

होलिका दहन का समय एवं तिथि

शुभ महूर्त के अनुसार 17 मार्च के दिन होलिका दहन का त्यौहार प्रस्तावित है और होलिका दहन का समय इस बार 9 बजकर 20 मिनट से 10 बजकर 31 मिनट के मध्य होगा , जिसमे सभी जगह होलिका दहन किया जायेगा।

वृन्दावन के कुछ प्रमुख मंदिरों में विशेष रूप से होली का आयोजन किया जाता है जिनमे सर्वप्रथम है वृन्दावन का बांके बिहारी मंदिर, यहाँ हजारो श्रद्धालु बाल रूप बे बिराजमान भगवान् कृष्ण के साथ होली खेलने आते है यहाँ पुरे मंदिर प्रांगण को विशेष फूलों द्वारा सुसज्जित किया जाता है एवं पुरे मंदिर परिसर में गुलाल और रंग भरी पिचकारियों से रंग की बौछार की जाती है , दूसरा स्थान यहाँ इस्कॉन मंदिर का आता है जो की हरे रामा हरे कृष्णा संस्था द्वारा संचालित है इस मंदिर में विशेष रूप से विदेशी भक्तों द्वारा होली के महोत्सव पर भजन कीर्तन की प्रस्तुति होती है। और

बरसाना लठमार होली 2022,

बरसाना आगरा दिल्ली हाईवे के समीप कोसी कलां छेत्र में बसा हुआ एक छोटा सा गाँव है  बरसाना हिन्दू धर्म के अनुयायिओं के लिए एक विशेष धर्म स्थल है जहाँ श्री राधा रानी का जन्म हुआ था , यहाँ लाखों की तादात में भक्त हर वर्ष श्री राधा रानी के दर्शन करने पहुँचते है जो की एक पहाड़ी एक ऊपर स्थित भव्य मंदिर में विराजमान है, बरसाना की लठमार होली विश्व भर में प्रसिद्द है जिसका आयोजन प्रति वर्ष होली की तिथि से कुछ दिन पूर्व किया जाता है।  इस पर्व गाँव की महिलाये एवं पुरुष एक स्थान पर एकत्र होकर लठमार होली खेलते है जहाँ सभी महिलाये पुरुषो को होली के गीत गाकर लठों से पीटती है और पुरुष वर्ग उनकी पिटाई से बचने का भर्सक प्रयास करते है , यह द्रश्य इतना सूंदर प्रतीत होता है जिसे अपने कैमरा में कैद करने देश विदेश से पर्यटक यहाँ पहुँचते है एवं इस त्यौहार में पहाड़ी पर स्थित मंदिर से अबीर और गुलाल की वर्षा की जाती है।

होली 2022 की तैयारी कैसे करें ?

होली त्यौहार से कुछ दिन पूर्व से ही सर्वप्रथम लोग लकड़ियां एकत्र करते है जिससे की होलिका दहन किया जा सके, लगभग 15 दिने पहले से ही घरों की महिलाएं विभीन तरह के पकवान घरो में बनाना आरम्भ कर देते है जिन्हे की होली पर आने वाले मेहमानो को परोसा जाता है। बच्चे इस पर्व पर पहले से रंग वाली पिचकारी, गुब्बारे और गुलाल खरीद कर रख लेते है और त्यौहार आने पर सभी के साथ होली खेलते है। कई जगह पर विशेष नृत्य प्रतियोगिताएं आयोजित की जाती है जहाँ बच्चे बड़े सभी वर्ग के लोग हिस्सा लेते है।

Aarti traditions are supposed to be derived from the Vedic ritual of the fire worship. During the Aryian era the homa or the fore worship was in vogue. In the modern Aarti ceremony there is the amalgam of Vedic traditions and neo rituals. Major indigents of Arti one flovers, incense, fire, ghee peacock pluns, rice, vermillion, bells, clarion etc.

According to the Hindu legends there are 5 elements in the universe and the human body is also made of them. Such elements are called Chhiti (Earth) Jal (Water) Pavak (fire) Gagan (Sky) Sameer (Wind). During the Arti ceremony there is the presence of all 5 elements of nature. Water pot or Kalash is given prominence with all sorts of worships. The earthen lamps with burning wicks devotees fire element flowers and incense represents the purest set of mind Ghee or better devotees the Earth element.

How Arti is performed?

Arti is performed normally at dawn and dusk in the houses. Similarly at the temples it is performed five times daily. It is normally performed with the opening of the temple. In the temples lord is considered to reside in worldly form rising early, having lunch, having siesta and after dinner neutering for overnight sleep. Thus with the morning ritual Arti ceremony starts with Mangla Arti. In the Ati ritual a grand plate is prepared with Aarti.

In the Aarti ritual a grand plate is prepared with Aarti lamps and it is waived in clock wise direction around the deity and the rest of the congregation indulge in singing Bhajans or prayers to alore the deity. The Aarti plate is made of copper or bronze and a lamp made of Kneaded flour or metal is placed full with ghee. Besides incense, flowers, camphor is also given place. Thus the practice of Arti is dare to show the gratitude towards the deity which bestows the incessant mercy on the mankind.

Significance of Pitru Paksha

In this Pitru Paksha there is the tradition to donate money and materials as well as feeding a Brahmin and the cow and birds it is believed the donated articles reach the pitrus living in their abode at heaven. Hindu scriptures narrate about the debits in a human life called Rinas. They are known as Dev Rina, Guru Rina, Pitru Rina, It means one owes a lot to the deities, their spiritual leaders and to the parents. Parents give birth to the progeny and inside the veins of a human the blood flows from their parents. Parents rear up the child. So it is the duty of a human to pay respect during the time they are alive and after their deaths as well.

The Hindu scriptures describe the presence of 84 particles in a human being from father’s side. These genetic qualities are derived not only from the father but are from 7 generations back. But predominantly 3 generations have more influence. Thus in Pitru Paksha 3 generations – father, grandfather and great grandfather are more revered. Thus the offerings are done in this time goes to these generations.

There is a popular Puranic story about Pitru Paksha that goes like this – After the demise when Karna went to the Yamlok he was given jewels gold to feed. Karna asked for food in return he was told that he did donations entire his life of such objects, but he never did anything for Pitras any time. He was suggested to do that and he returned back to the earth to satisfy his Pitras in the Pitru Paksha. Thus he was given good food on his return. This instance emphasize or the Pitru Paksha rituals in human life.

What is shradh?

The Hindu mythology believes that the ancestor goes to the Pitru Lok after death. This Lok is located beyond the Moon in between the Earth and the Paradise. This is ruled by Yam, the god of death. Thus the ancestors before going to the paradise reside in the yamlok. For a certain period of 16 days land down on the earth planet to know about the well being of their descendants. These souls come to Martuyalok in minute forms or deceptive forms such as birds, animals or any beggar etc. Thus we should not forbid gratuities to any beggar or the needy and should feed animals such as cows, dogs, ants and birds like crow.

The descendants do tarpan to appease the ancestors and have their blessings. Harvansh Purana tells that Bhishma told the importance of Shradh to Yushidthir and emphasised that those who do Shradha get ultimate satisfaction in the Matralok and Parlok, by indulging in the rituals of Sharadha one gets his wishes fulfilled such as procreation, interest in the religion and theology etc. Shradh Paksha is celebrated in second half month of Bhadrapad which normally occurs in September according to the Gregorian calendar.During the fortnight when the shradha karma is done no auspicious (shubha) act is done in the Hindu families, the people abstain from marriages, new ventures, inaugurations etc

Shradh Vidhi

Often many people are not aware of Pind Daan Vidhi and timings. This ritual should be done under the guidance of a knowledgeable Pind Daan Pandit. This should be done on the particular death anniversary from early morning to 12:30 PM. The essential ingredients include honey, milk, black seasame seeds, rice pudding and clothes should be donated. If you include basil leaves and Ganges Water it would appease Pitras. The Pitras should be invoked in a hygienic place and the yajna should be done in South East direction. At the culmination of the rituals the Brahmans should be fed in the South facing direction.

Pind Daan in India

The Hindus in India and Nepal visit visit many pilgrimage places during the Pitru Paksha. Such as Haridwar, Nashik, Kurukhetra, Varanasi, Gaya Ji, Soroji etc. In such places they find their Pandas for the Shradh rituals. These pandas maintain genealogy registers with them and they tell about the family tree and about the blood relations easily.

Gaya Pind Daan

Pretshila

Close to Gaya there is a famous religious place called Pretshila. Which literally signify the stone of the Pret. It is believed that the ancestors get easy Pind daan over here close to the main rock there are other stones with holes. It is believed that the souls come through these holes. Thus doing Pind daan in prêt shila by black sesame, Kheer and barley makes the soul freed from the cycle of rebirth.

Vishnu Pad Temple

This temple is in Gaya and is one famous places to visit in Pind daan ritual. There is a Puranic story which tells that there was a devil called Gayasur who tortured the saints and devtas. Under the request of the oppressed Lord Vishnu killed this tyrant by the thrust of his club and put a stone on his head. Still it is believed that you can see the stone(pretshila) put by Lord Vishnu in this temple. Thus Gaya is considered a place for liberation.

Location & Timings of Kusum Sarovar – This famous religious place of Mathura is located nearly 22 kms far from Mathura in Govardhan. It is one of the important spots of Govardhan Parikrama Marg. This place is open for the devotees from 6 Pm every day of the week.

History of Kusum Sarovar

This Pond has a long history. The reservoir is supposed to be built by king Chhatrasal of Bundelkhand. As a devout of Lord Krishna he visited the place and gave donation and thus erected this place. During the Jat rule this place including Mathura was under the domain of the Jat King of Bharatpur. At the demise of well known ruler Raja Surajmal his son Jawahar singh cremated him on the banks of this reservoirs and made an impressive chhatari in his memory. Later the wives of Surajmal and other family members were also cremated and some other Chattaries(Samadi) were built.

Architecture of Kusum Sarovar

The entire area is built in red and buff colored stone. In the back drop of the Kusum Sarovar lies the towering Chattries. In the central hall there is the cremation point of king Surajmal. The ceilings of the cenotaph are nicely ornate with frescoes. The themes of the painting are the coronation ceremony, Durbar proceedings, Hindu legends etc. You can also witness the idols of the Hindu deities. Right on the top ceiling in the centre is the beautiful painting which you can pictures for the Instagram. From the top cenotaph you can enjoy taking pictures of the reservoirs. Radha Kund – Nearby Kusum Sarovar

Next to Kusum Sarovar hardly at a distance of 2kms lies Radha Kund. You have to pass through the narrow alley to reach the Radha Kund. This is another major spot of Govardhan Parikrama. Legends say that Lord Krishna used to be with cowherd in this Govardhan region. A demon Aristasur used to tease the people. This Satan attacked Lord Krishna in the deceptive guise of a calf and was doomed to death. His consort Radha suggested that as he killed the cow family he would be cursed with ignominy. Lord Krishna spontaneously dug a pond by the end of his flute and similarly Radha sunk another pond nearby the thrust of her bracelet. The pond sunk by Krishna is called Shyam Kund and that one by Radha is known as Radha Kund.

The legend says that Lord Krishna and Radha indulged in Maharas after taking bath. To mark the event every year in the Kartik month on Asthami lots of couples come to take bath in the quest of son. This day is called Ahoi Asthami. The ladies wish from Radhaji to bless them with son.

Chutad Teka – This is a resting place for those who indulge in 7 kos Parikrama of Govardhan. The legends say that Govardhan Parvat is losing it’s height day by day from thousands of feet to 30 meters now. In the holy months of Sravan pilgrims walk around this Parvat which is linked with Lord Krishna. The mythology says that Lord Krishna lifted this mountain on the top of his finger to save Gokul from the tyranny of Indra and saved the common folks from the torrents of rain showers. Thus Govardhan Parvat is a prime center of religion. Lord Krishna appealed the people to worship the mountain which is the suitable place for the cows and cowherds and useful to the vicinity.

The mythology says that while Lord Ram was planning for a bridge over the ocean, Lord Hanuman approached Dronagiri for stones and Dronagiri dictated his son for the noble cause. As Lord Hanuman was carrying Govardhan he got a call that now no need for further stones. Lord Hanuman left Govardhan at the place and had a rest for a while on this seat. Since then this seat is called Chutar Teka. Other story says that Lord Sri Krishna had a rest on the seat after saving the common people from Indra’s rage.

The legends say that there was a devil named Vratasur who was in a mood to conquer the divine seat of Lord Indra and thus posed a threat to the authority of Indra. The Gods and Goddesses under the threat had a meeting and devised a plan to kill this demon. Under the plan, they urged Rishi Dadhichi to provide his bones for the sake of making a divine bow.

Machkund Dholpur

Guru Hargobind Sahib the sixth Sikh Guru killed a Lion at this place so a Gurudwara is also present at the Machkund ghat.

Significance of Damodar Kund

This Kund is located near Damodar Temple Gujarat It is one of the sacred lakes as per Hindu mythology, This is located at the foothills of Girnar hills, near Junagadh in Gujarat, India.

It is considered holy, as per Hindu mythology and many Hindus prefer to bathe and immerse the ashes and the bones left after the cremation of dead bodies, here at Damodar Kund due to a belief that the departed souls would get moksha here.^[

The water of the lake has properties of dissolving the bones.^] The lake is 257 ft long and 50 ft broad and only 5 feet deep. It is surrounded by a well-built ghat.

Nearby the lake is two small reservoirs- Revati Kund and Mrigi Kund where pilgrims visit to get rid of their sins by taking a dip. The lake springs to life during the Shivratri festival. Also, a fair is organized on Amavasya day of Bhadarva month as per the Hindu calendar. After seeing the lake, one can say that God has a major hand in the creation of nature.

History of Pitambara Mandir Datia

It is believed that Peetambra Shaktipeeth was founded in 1935 by Tejaswi Swamiji. There are no concrete proof of Devi’s birthplace, name, family, etc on account of Swamiji’s devotion to the goddess Mata resides in Chaturbhuj form. This temple was established by a saint called Swami Ji Maharaj and when it was created the other saints were in fear to see the goddess shakti in this dangerous form. But Swamiji Maharaj convinced them that this form of the goddess is just for the evils and enemies.

The History of Ram Mandir

Lord Ram for Hindus is not only a king or character but He is God and has a great reverence among the Hindus. He is so popular that in normal greetings in North India people say “Ram Ram”. Ram is one of the top searched word on the Google and other search engines.

It was the year 1992 and the day was 6^th December when VHP and B.J.P held a combined rally with more than 2 lac volunteers. The Car Sevaks became uncontrolled and under the rage, they tore the disputed structure to pieces. The demolition of the structure resulted in communal and sectarian violence and nearly  2000 people lost their lives.

Construction Cost & Timings of Ram Mandir Ayodhya  

According to the supreme court, the local Administration handed over a total land of 67.07 acres to the trust. Out of this land patch, 10 acres will be used for the construction of the temple of Prabhu Sri Ram and the rest 57 acres will be used for the other amenities such as the prayer hall, guest houses, and the facilitation center.

This project will cost nearly 1100 Crores of which 300 to 400 crores used for temple construction and the rest 700 crores used for other construction and expected to be finished in a stipulated time period of 3-4 years. The Ram Mandir is proposed to be 161 feet high and 360 feet long. The width of the temple will be 235 feet under the main sanction Ram Lala Vigrah will be present.

Bhoomi Poojan of Ram Mandir

It was the auspicious day of 5 August 2020 when the Bhoomi Poojan ceremony of the Ram temple was held. On 4^th August Ramcharan Puja was performed in which major Gods and goddesses were invoked. Under the historic verdict, it was ordered to the center to set up a trust in 3 months for the construction of the temple. It also ordered the government to allot 5 acres of separate land to the Muslims to build a Mosque.

The government of India following the orders of the Apex court formed this trust known as Sri Ram Janambhoomi Teerth kshetra. The Ganges Ghats are the points which have river front steps leading to the bank of the river. The Ghat making tradition is very old in India and can be traced back to 13^th century or even before. In the ancient times the Hindu rulers or the trade haunches used to build Ghats on the famous river like Ganga and Yamuna.

The purpose of Making Ghats of the Ganges

The prime reason behind the construction of Ghats was to provide a good bathing place to the pilgrims. Sometimes the river bank was quite down and was hard to be  approached, thus by making the concrete or brick steps people used to reach the bank easily. On the banks many  Pandas or Joshis used to sit to bless the people or to provide them help in Ganga Aarti.

The other purpose of making the Ghats was to provide a cremation place. In the Hindu religion it is considered a boon  to be cremated on the bank of the Ganges in Varanasi. Besides these purposes the Ghats was to serve as a place for boating for fun and for trade and commerce.

The word “Ghat” is supposed to be derived from Ghat word ,which means the valley of the river. As these rivers used to make valleys and it was hard to swim, bathe or worship, the custom of making of Ghats started.

Ghats on the Reservoirs

Besides the Ghats on the holy river Ganga and Yamuna almost many other rivers of North and South India has the tradition of Ghats.

In many religious sites like in Pushkar we find lots of Ghats around the Brahim Sarovar. Similarly if you go and visit Machkund you again find the large pond having hundred of staircases leading down to the water.  In the city of Mathura again close to the Krishna’s Birth Place you can find such large pond with staircases.

Panchal Ghat of the Ganges , Farukhabad      

The city of Farukhabad has the history with the Mughal ruler Farukhsiyar, but the area has thousands of years old history of the Mahajanapod period. This area used to be prominent Panchal Kingdom. Draupadi the princess of Panchal was  married to Pandvas. In the English time the Ghat near Farukhabad city was named as Ghatia Ghat, which signifies bad quality ghat. Later it was named as Panchal Ghat. In the monnth of hindu month mah which normally falls in December of January ,a big fair is arranged called Ram Nagaria which lasts for one month.

People come to this Ghat for bathing and worshipping the river. Many times you can see the Ganges shadowing ceremony which is done by saris tied to each other. This is done by boat by the pilgrims ,if their wishes come true.

Soro Ghat – Soro Ghat is well known in the Indian legends as shookar khetra. This Ghat is in Kasganj district of Uttar Pradesh. People go to thus place a special Ganga bathing days like sharad Poornima. Makar Sankrauti etc. Besides the holy bath and death rituals on the Ganga Ghats, you can visit some famous temples of Soron like barah Bhawan Mandir, Raghunathji mandir. You can also look sitaramji Mandir which is considered the oldest, but now in rains as it was destroyed on the behest of Aurengzeb.

Kachla Ghat – This is another neighboring Ghat close to Soron on the Ganges. Thus place is thronged by the people from nearby districts.

Triveni Ghat – This is the biggest Ghat of Rishikesh. This remains busy with the people who come form different parts of India and  overseas to have a holy dip in the river.  Some people come to do the last rites of their ancestors. Varanasi is widely acclaimed as the city of the Ghats where since ages the famous Ghats are serving various purposes of religion and culture. The life of the city lies in the ripples of the Ganges. In this Shiva Nagari various devotees of Lord Shiva who have been the famous rulers, built many Ghats on the banks of the Ganges  and majority of them were devastated over the due course of time. Most of the Varanasi Ghats are rebuilt in 18^th century by the Maratha rulers. The city has nearly 88 small and large Ghats.

Assi Ghat- This is one of the most famous Ghats of Varanasi which is located on the meeting point of Ganges with Assi river. This Ghat can be approached from the city by using a long street. This Ghat is not so crowdy as the other Ghats like Manikarnika or Dashashwameth Ghat.

Manikarnika Ghat- This is considered very holy place for death ritual and thus thousands of bodies are cremated annually at this place as it is conceived that if one is cremated over huge, he or she is going to attain mokh (salvation from the cycle of death and rebearlth). Dead bodies are brought on the bier and cremated with all death rituals. The fire is borrowed from the Dame Raja and this fire is perennial. If you are bold enough you can go close to witness the rituals.

Dashashwameth Ghat- This is one of the oldest Ghats of Varanasi which according to the legends is created by Lord Brahma to Honors Lord Shiva. It is believed before the initiation of the work Lord Brahma sacrificed 10 horses before the sacred Agni. The enchanting ceremony of evening Aarti is mesmerizing. Besides the small shanties, beggars, priests clad in traditional attire present a spectacular view of Indian culture while the priests involve themselves in worship of the river with incense, flames and flowers, people release thousands of leaf lamps on the holy waters.

Man Mandir Ghat- This Ghat was erected by the king of Jaipur Raja man Singh in 1600 and is built in Rajput style. In the year 1730 Raja Sawai Jai Singh added to it the stone observatory  which is  still infect.

Lakshman Jhula

According to the legends, the story of Lakshman Jhula is connected with the mythological character, the younger brother of Lord Rama Lakshman. When Lakshman crossed the river Ganges he used only two jute ropes to cross this river. To remember the brave job of Lord Lakshman a long hanging 284 feet bridge was constructed in year 1889. But it was vanquished during the floods of 1924 and again constructed with iron suspension rods.

This is the iconic landmark of Rishikesh and also the state of Uttarakhand. This bridge is used by the locals as well as tourists to cross the river Ganges. Swami Ji gave this name ‘Parmarth Niketan’ to this campus. In present Parmarth Niketan is known as the spiritual hub of Rishikesh where people are coming in the search of peace and Spirituality. This is the famous land mark for food connoisseurs those are coming to visit Rishikesh. This is a pure vegetarian restaurant serving North Indian, Chinese, South Indian and Rajasthani food. Neelkanth Mahadev Temple

Neelkanth Mahadev temple is situated on the distance of 28 km from Lakshamn Jhula in Pauri Garhwal District. The spire of this temple is adorned with scene of churning of the ocean by devils and Gods pulling a snake type of rope to churning the ocean to get priceless things under the ocean. This is the famous shrine of Lord Shiva and a sacred hindu pilgrimage site where devotees are coming different parts of India. It is surrounded by dense forest and adjacent to the mountain range of Nar and Narayan. This temple is also having a natual spring where devotees take holy bath before darshan. What is the life of Aghori Baba? 

Aghori’s are the group of vamacharis ascetics or Shaiva sadhus. They often live in crematoriums, they always smear crematorium ashes on their bodies. Amritsar is a major city in North India famous for the Golden Temple It lies in the north Indian state of Punjab. It’s not very far from the International border with Pakistan. History-

The Fourth Sikh master(Guru sahib) Sri Guru Ram Dass started developing a new city near the village of Tunga, it was named Chakk Ramdass Pur. There are two theories about the acquisition of land for this new city.

1-People say the land was bought for 700 Rs from the village of Tunga.

2-Emperor Akbar had visited the congregation of Third master(Guru sahib) Sri Guru Amar Dass Ji at Goindwal and was very pleased to see the working and ethos of Sikh principles. It is said  Emperor Akbar had Food from the community kitchen sitting with common folks and disciples. Some people say Akbar donated the land for the new proposed city.

The site for the new temple was selected, this site is said to be an old pool which was known to have magical curative prowess. There is a very old tale of a lady “Bibi Rajni” whose husband a leper was cured of this dreaded disease by simply having a bath in this pool. Guru Ramdass ji started the construction of this pool. The construction started in 1577 and was completed in 1589. Guru Ramdass Ji left for his celestial abode in 1581. Guru Arjan dev his successor and the fifth master(Guru Sahib) of the Sikh faith completed the pool and started construction of the new Sikh temple, The foundation stone of the temple was laid by a Sufi saint Mian Meer. The temple was named as “Hari Mandir” the temple of Lord Hari. On its completion in 1604, the Adi Granth sahib was placed in the sanctum sanctorum, Baba Buddha sahib was authored by the First Gyani.

Emperor Jehangir in his autobiography wrote about the Sikh movement and vowed to put an end to it. Guru Arjan Dev Ji was martyred in the city of Lahore as he refused to embrace Islam. This incident was the turning point of this very peaceful spiritual movement. The sixth Guru Har Gobind Ji ordered the Sikh to be a saint soldier, he himself carried two swords one signifying the temporal authority and the other representing the spiritual authority. He started the construction of Akaal Takht sahib a seat of temporal authority, Akal Takht is the highest court of the Sikh religion. After the sixth Guru sahib, the Harimandir sahib fell into the hands of people who were not friendly with the Sikh masters they didn’t even allow the Ninth master Guru Tegh bahadur sahib to enter the precincts of the temple, A gurudwara inside the temple complex reminds of this event. Guru Gobind Singh the tenth master again took control of this temple.

For the coming 200 years, the temple was witness to a vicious struggle of the Sikhs with Mughals and Afghan invaders resulting in repeated demolitions of the temple complex. Ahmad Shah Abdali destroyed the temple twice in 1757 and 1762. Finally, as the Sikh Maharaj Ranjit Singh laid the foundation of the Sikh empire he rebuilt the temple complex in 1809, Maharaja gave the world-famous look to the Harimandir sahib as he guided the temple with 400 kgs of Gold plates on the copper plates thus the name Golden temple came into existence. White marble has also been extensively used in architecture. some historians say the mausoleum of emperor Jehangir in Lahore was partly demolished and the marble screens were used in the construction of the Golden temple this was a kind of revenge on the Mughal emperor who had ordered the martyrdom of the Fifth master.

Sikh philosophy and Golden temple– India in the sixteenth century was a land of turmoil that Indian society was reeling under its own weight. The caste system had completely divided society. The social ills like “Sati” were prevalent, there was a prevalent animosity between the Hindu and the Muslims. Sikh religion started by Guru Nanak dev Ji came as a heavenly respite, he raised a voice against the atrocities of Mughal emperor Babur, he brought the Hindus and Muslims together, his new philosophy completely rejected the caste system and other social evils like “Sati” he preached on the gender equality. The Sikh philosophy relied on these principles-

• Naam Japo ( Constantly recite the lord’s holy name)
• Kirat Karo (Earn livelihood through righteous means)
• Wand Chako (Share your righteous earning with the underprivileged)
• Naam is the recitation of the holy name of the lord almighty as a mantra imparted to the Sikh by the Guru. The disciple is supposed to continuously recite the holy name.
• Kirat means the livelihood, a Sikh is supposed to earn his livelihood through righteous means and raise his family using the same. A Sikh is supposed to be a householder.
• Sikh enjoys the virtues of his rightfully earned livelihood and shares it with other fellow human beings.

Guru Amardass gave the mantra of “Pangat and Sangat” meaning a disciple has to first sit and eat food prepared in a community kitchen eating with all other fellow humans thus negating the concept of caste system in totality. The food is nourishment for the body, after getting nourishment for body a disciple is expected to attend the congregation of the Guru and listen to the celestial Gurubani sung in classical ragas. This was food for the spirit, both are taken special care even now at the Harimandir sahib here Gurbani kirtan happens uninterrupted for entire day and the community kitchen (Langar) serves food to all disciples coming to the darbar of the Guru. Before enjoying these heavenly virtues a devotee is expected to first cleanse his body by taking a dip in the sarovar (pool) and clean his karma along with his body. Guru Ajan Dev ji called Harimandir as “Athsath teerth”( there are supposed to be 68 places of pilgrimage in Hindu ideology) a bath at Harimandir sahib gives the devotee the fruit of bathing at all these 68 places of pilgrimage altogether.

The concept of live Guru was stopped by the order of the tenth master Guru Gobind Singh who before leaving this etheral world ordered the congregation to revere the Sri Guru Granth sahib a compilation of the bani (hymns) of Sikh masters and Hindu and Muslim saints together as a live Guru.

Since then Sri Guru Granth Shib is treated as a live Guru and his orders are read out from Harimandir sahib daily.

Architecture-

Very recently the state government of Punjab completed its famous corridor project around the Golden temple, many old structures like a huge water tank have been razed and demolished. The crossing in front of the temple has been amalgamated into the complex and special beautification drive has been carried on. The construction has happened as a continuous process. The temple has four gates, this was a concept to show the world that it was open to everyone regardless of caste creed and religion. Even the foundation stone of the temple is said to be laid by a Muslim saint Sain Miyan Meer.

From the main entrance as you approach the temple you have to take a flight of steps down, this was also done deliberately. On way to the God, humility is a key factor. this has been added as an architectural phenomenon. As you go down the steps the man made pool almost a perfect square has the shining Golden temple on one side. The devotees do a circumambulation of the pool in clockwise manner till they reach “Darshini dyodhi”. This is the entrance gate to the temple connected via a small bridge on the pool. The gate has been decorated with period paintings, the bridge is always crowded by the devotees who wait patiently to pay their homage to the Guru sahib.The temple is a two storied structure with dome on the top, the top story is all guilded with gold while the lower story is decked with marble. The gold has been plated on the copper plates. Very recently in 1990’s a renovation project was carried over and fresh gold plating was done more than 500 kg of gold was used in the process. The gold is 24 carrat and shines charismatically leaving the visitors spell bound. Nowhere you will come across such a huge structure all covered in gold it’s a marvel.

The design is an amalgamation of Hindu and Islamic style of architecture. The verses of Sri Guru Granth Sahib have been inscribed on the insides of the arches. The inside hall has the congregation of Sri Guru Granth Sahib seated on a slightly elevated platform with a beautiful embroidered canopy on the top the bards sing Guruvani in classical Indian music notes and ragas.  The devotees bow in reverence right in front of the Guru and silently after wards move out of the hall, the ceiling is all painted in geometric patterns in liquid gold. The design cues have been also taken from other Indian architectural marvels. Pietre Dura(Inlay) work from the Tajmahal has been done resplendently floral patterns along with birds and live figures of humans has been used here these coloured stones and the designs are so intricate that you will be amazed. Narrow steps take you to the upper story where again the holy Sri Guru Granth Sahib is read. The stair case and the walls are all decked up with motifs and paintings in liquid gold now these have been covered in glass panels . Taking a flight of few more steps will lead you to the roof top here the flag insignia of Sikh religion flies high, on one side is a small room with a dome on top, the top finial is in shape of a lotus in bloom.the sides are flanked with rows of small canopies. The view from the top is enthralling.

Ghanta Ghar Chowk-

The main entrance to the Golden temple complex is through the Ghanta ghar chowk, recently this intersection and the adjoining area were revamped by the Government of Punjab, this intersection has been given a swanky new look, the shops and the alleys have been remodeled and redesigned. The name of this intersection comes from a non existent clock tower.This clock tower was made by the British in 1874 at a cost of fifty thousand Rupees it was a towering structure overlooking the Golden temple and in fact was a kind of eye soar. The tower was at close proximity to the Golden temple the architecture was Gothic and didn’t blend with the Indian architecture of the Golden temple. Some historians say the clock tower was made to undermine the Golden temple and perhaps the then Govt planned to make a church in the clock tower near the Golden temple. After independence the clock tower was torn down and now no one knows any thing about the towering structure . Today only the name remains but in other north Indian cities like Ludhiana the clock towers still exist.

Daily routine at Hari Mandir Sahib-The day starts very early at Hari Mandir Sahib. The clergy get together and the congregation hall is wiped dry(this is called sookhi sewa), All the accouterments from the hall are removed .The entire hall is then washed properly with a mixture of milk and water. Then all the arrangements are redone after drying the hall. This is the start of the preparations for a long day ahead. Sri Guru Granth Sahib is revered as a live Guru, now this is the time to bring the Guru in a palanquin from Akal Takht to the hall in Harimandir sahib where the Guru will bless the congregation for entire day. With utmost care and respect the Granthi after saying a formal prayer carries the Guru sahib to his palanquin. The Ransingha a typical musical instrument used to announce the arrival of Maharajas are sounded the drums are beaten aloud. The devotees so elated to lend a hand to the palanquin of Guru carry the embodiment of live Guru on their shoulders, the prayers have been answered this is the gratefulness of the Guru who has imparted his disciples the service. All the way palanquin is showered with flower petals, the Narsingha keeps on announcing the arrival of Guru sahib. Upon reaching Harimandir sahib Guru takes his seat and the clergy along with disciples makes the first prayer of the day. The first order(Hukam nama) by the Guru sahib is made (this is the order of Guru sahib for all Sikhs everywhere and its revered very highly). This is followed by bards who start singing ASA DI VAAR thus the day begins very early daily at Harimandir sahib you can be part of this heavenly spectacle at the Golden temple Amritsar.

The entire day the chosen bards sing the sacred hymns of the Gurbaani in classical Indian notes. These bards are the best raagis. They are allotted a slot in busy schedule and according to the time allotted they sing and do the service, this continues for the entire day while the public lines up and pays their obeisance to the Guru at the congregation. At the end of the long day Guru sahib bids farewell to his devotees and leaves the congregation hall in a similar procession to that of the morning . At Akal Takht the Guru sahib retires for the night. A long day comes to an end by the blessings of the Guru Sahib.

Special festivals and Celebrations-

Though all the birthdates of the 10 Sikh Gurus are celebrated at the Harimandir sahib but the birth day of Sri Guru Ramdass is a special occasion, Day of Diwali is another occasion when Harimandir sahib is all decked up with special lights and floral decoration. The Diwali night has thousands of devotees watching a grand display of fireworks.

Community Kitchen –Langar as it id popularly known .All the devotees gather at the building called Langar hall, this is a multi storied building comprising of huge halls on every floor. The devotees before approaching these halls pick up a plate with a spoon and a glass for water,they pour into the halls nicely aligning sitting in straight lines squat on the floor as the volunteers serve freshly prepared dal(green/black lentil) chapatis(fresh pancakes) along with pickle and salad. The food is strictly vegetarian and huge quantities of the same are prepared in the community kitchen with preparations in advance for the entire day serving. A dessert made of rice cooked in milk is served as an icing on the cake. The devotees are not differentiated on any caste or creed or religion basis all the humans receive the blessings of the Guru. This continues throughout the day. Every day more than 50000 devotees eat at this free kitchen at Hari Mandir Sahib. Cleanliness is very well taken care and the cleaning of the hall is done with automatic cleaning machines, again machines are now utilized for making chapatis(pancakes) thousands of chapatis are cooked by these automatic machines.The utensils are at least washed five times before being used again. Any one can be a volunteer and deliver his/her service at the langar hall.

1:-Jalian Wala Bagh

Location- This memorial is located very near to the Golden temple complex. It takes a two minute walk from the temple gate to reach this memorial.

History- The Bagh means a garden, this infamous garden came into news in 1919 when a British Officer Brigadier General R E H Dyer ordered indiscriminate firing on the congregation of Indian peaceful demonstrators who were protesting peacefully against the then British Indian Government. The garden had only one narrow passage and the same was covered by the firing squad. The protesters could not escape and some jumped into a well inside the garden to save their lives.After India got independent this place was preserved as a memorial of Indian martyrs. Though the exact number of dead can never be exactly known as the then British Indian Government never let the real data out.Some 2000 people including children and women were expected dead in the shoot out, the bullet marks of the shoot out can still be seen on the old walls preserved in glass facade.

2:-India Pakistan Flag lowering parade at wagha border

Location- The International border of India Pakistan runs very close to the city of Amritsar. Located around 30 kms away from Amritsar the border is very well connected to Amritsar city by a four lane highway.The border is used as a transit point for people traveling between these two countries , its also a trade point where import and export goods are exchanged.

Started in 1959 as a beating retreat ceremony ,the flags are lowered and border gates are officially closed for the night Border security force of India and the Pakistani rangers take part in the ceremony,The rising number of tourist and the existing problems between these two nations have transformed this parade into a high voltage display where the fists are pumped and the patriotic songs are sung and the onlookers sneer and swear at the people across the border, The huge crowds show that people enjoy this grand display of military might and patriotism.There is no entrance fees and there are huge galleries for the crowd to sit and enjoy the parade. The seat are available on first come first serve basis so please come in time otherwise you will have to watch the entire episode from the last bench where not much is visible. The timings differ with season. During winter season the parade starts at around 4:00pm while summer it starts at around 5:00pm.

3-Durgiana Temple

Location- This temple is located very near to the Amritsar railway station and just around ane and half kilometer from the Amritsar bus stand.

History and architecture;-According to the belief this is a very old historic site. This is the supposed place of epic Ramayana where the sons of lord Rama after stopping the horse of Ashvamegha yaga tied Hanumana. The present temple dedicated to Goddess Durga was constructed in 1921 by Guru Har Sai Kapoor. This temple resembles the Hari Mandir Sahib(Golden temple). On your Amritsar tour you can also visit this Hindu temple. The temple has dome gilded in gold and silver gilded doors.
